With lockdown becoming a way of life for the foreseeable future, people are spending more time online. People from across the world have turned to dating apps and chat rooms to fill the time and strike up conversations and virtually flirt with people. But with the risk of catching and spreading coronavirus still a very real threat, meeting up physically can be a dangerous option. LuckyCrush, which was co-founded in 2019, serves as the perfect antidote.

LuckyCrush is a live, random video chat site for heterosexual adults looking to chat with strangers. Men are matched with random women, and vice versa, and are put into a video chat together. In this chat, there are many different options to suit each user. You can talk aloud or use the chat function to type and send messages. Similarly, you can opt to have your face on camera – cam chat – or hide it and stay anonymous. If you don’t like the person you are randomly put in a chat with, click “next” to move onto the next person.

This is not a dating site, but a “ephemeral” chat site with no option to meet physically, only to chat with girls and guys. LuckyCrush’s guidelines prohibit users from sharing their personal and contact details. The only thing the person you are matched with will see is your username, keeping you anonymous and safe.

LuckyCrush has gone to some lengths to protect the privacy of its users and keep everyone safe. There are useful functions such as having the ability to report people and if someone gets reported more than three times within 24 hours, they are banned for life. These features have led LuckyCrush to see a rise of 50% in the number of registrations during lockdown, with a 200% increase in time use per member.

A reason for LuckyCrush’s 1.5 million users across over 100 different countries is its balancing of the ratio of female to male. The site regulates the number of people using it at any one time so that there will consistently be about 50% men and 50% women ready to chat at any time. This hopes to ensure that people don’t have to wait a long time before moving onto the next partner.

At the moment, LuckyCrush is just for straight people. This is because of the abovementioned registration regulation, but they are planning on making a separate site for same-sex matchmaking for the future.

Another factor that contributes to LuckyCrush’s success is its built-in translator feature. As there are so many people using the site from around the world, there are many different languages being spoken. So they’ve recently developed an automatic translator in the chat function, allowing people to communicate freely and easily, without relying on a third party translation site.

To get started on LuckyCrush, there’s no need to download an app. The chat site can be reached easily from any desktop or mobile device, where all you need to do is select your gender and click “start searching”. You’ll be allowed to browse a few different partners before registering and adding in your username to get chatting.
