The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony returns to London on 18 July

50 Best announces that The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2022 will be hosted on Monday 18th July at the historic Old Billingsgate market in the City of London, marking the 20th year of the awards.

2022 will see the return of the world-renowned celebration to London, where it was hosted from 2003 to 2015, with the most important annual gathering of chefs, restaurateurs, media and gourmets in the gastronomic calendar. An exclusive events programme hosted throughout the city will culminate in the awards ceremony, taking place in Old Billingsgate, the capital’s former fish market overlooking the River Thames and Tower Bridge.

William Drew, the director of content for 50 Best, says: “We are thrilled to announce the much-anticipated date for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards 2022 at such an iconic and historic London venue. We can’t wait to bring the global gastronomic back together in full once again, as well as to share with the world the incredible developments in London’s restaurant scene over recent years.”

Highlights for the programme in London in mid-July will include a series of key events such as the thought-leadership forum, #50BestTalks, a Chefs’ Feast showcasing the finest produce and cooking from the UK, the much-anticipated Meet the Chefs media roundtable and, of course, the awards ceremony and unveiling of the 2022 list itself. This special edition of #50BestTalks will focus on the art of hospitality under the title ‘Bring the Magic!’, featuring some of the most inspirational and influential restaurateurs of the contemporary era.

New for this year is a 50 Best Collaboration Dining series, which will see leading chefs and restaurants in London team up with visiting 50 Best chefs from all over the world to create bespoke menus for one night only. Further information on participating chefs and restaurants and how to book will be made available in due course.

The July event programme will also be preceded by several individual award announcements including Champions of Change, The World’s Best Female Chef Award, the Icon Award and the One To Watch Award, all of which are designed to honour the achievements of either individuals or establishments.

The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021 event held in Antwerp saw Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark, named The World’s Best Restaurant. The current incarnation of Noma is now part of the Best of the Best hall of fame list of former No.1 restaurants, and therefore will not be eligible to appear in the ranking for 2022 and beyond.

50 Best will continue to use its global platform to highlight even more noteworthy restaurants and bars worldwide – through the 50 Best Discovery platform, comprising an in-depth collection of city guides – and its 50 Best lists, special awards, unranked collections and content series, including its 50 Next list. 50 Best will take the opportunity in 2022 and beyond to amplify diverse voices and positive messages, foster progressive discussion and cross-border collaboration, and encourage greater gastronomic discovery and exploration.

The 50 Best organisation’s role in promoting restaurants and showcasing culinary talent remains more important than ever, continuing to support the hospitality sector by inspiring diners to seek out exciting gastronomic experiences once again, whether near or far. 50 Best works with professional services consultancy Deloitte as its official independent adjudication partner to help protect the integrity and authenticity of the voting process and the resulting list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022.
