Wallows at the Hammersmith Apollo

American alt-rock band Wallows brought their signature southern California sounds to London on Wednesday night at the always stunning Hammersmith Apollo. 

The only London show on their current sold-out Tell Me That It’s Over tour went off without a hitch, showcasing some of the biggest hits in alternative music at the moment to a crowded theatre. The band started the night off with fan favourite I Don’t Want to Talk,  from their second album and latest release, Tell Me That It’s Over. 

The energy that Wallows bring to their fans completely ignited the venue, with unmatched vitality in every guitar riff at the start of every song. Wallows gave the crowd what they wanted with each hit, songs such as These Days, Pleaser and OK turning the room into an echo chamber of the catchy lyrics. 

Accompanied by a visually stunning yet simple display of vibrant, colourful lighting, the band delivered an incredible performance that seemed to keep everyone on their feet and in a So-Cal rock’n’roll trance that only they could bring to London.

The tracks were just as good live as when listened to at home: absolutely everyone sang the words to 1980s Horror Film II, Scrawny, Remember When and of course Pictures of Girls. The group maintained the vibe throughout the night, apparently extremely excited to be on stage delivering the accomplished performance, and making it clear how surreal the experience was for them. They deserve every minute on cloud nine. 

Wallows ended the night with Guitar Romantic Search Adventure off their latest album, right before the encore of I Fell and Are Your Bored Yet? – arguably one of their most popular songs and the perfect ending to the perfect gig to kick off the new year.
