Zak Abel at 1 Warwick

Zak Abel at 1 Warwick | Live review

Zak Abel first commanded the attention of music lovers with his 2015 extended play, One Hand on the Future, when he was just 20 years of age. With his effortlessly engaging demeanour and soul-saturated vocals, the singer/songwriter went on to enjoy success with debut album Only When We’re Naked. The artist has since built a solid fanbase, releasing a number of non-album singles in recent years.

His performance at the king’s coronation concert provided a high-profile platform for Abel to announce his long-awaited return to the music scene. Latest single Dance with You (The Comeback) serves as a teaser for his eagerly anticipated second album, which drops later this year. It will be supported by a European tour. Ahead of that, Abel entertains an eager, select crowd in London’s sumptuous 1 Warwick with an intimate and compact set.

Opting not to perform the hits that cemented him as a talent to watch out for, Abel showcased new material with the aid of just two guitarists. Captivating the room, the singer-songwriter’s voice alone demands undivided attention, with his approachable nature warmly inviting us in. This is an artist who is expert and assured in his craft.

A strong studio singer does not automatically equate to a strong stage presence, but Abel proves himself to be an all-round entertainer. He embodies soulful vigour and oozes a natural and authentic love for what he does, which easily radiates out into the crowd. This raw and alluring talent promises an exciting future ahead.
