Oriol Castro, Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas, the trio behind the Barcelona sensation Disfrutar, have released Disfrutar Vol 2, a new book in collaboration with Abalon Books. Following the award-winning first volume, this edition covers the restaurant’s evolution during 2018-2020, capturing their continuous creative drive. The book is available from today.

The second volume is a testament to the daily effort and creativity sustained in their restaurant, detailing new techniques and concepts developed over the period. The chefs’ innovative approach is further enhanced by the inclusion of QR codes in the book, linking readers to videos showcasing the execution of some recipes.

Spanning 326 pages, Disfrutar Vol 2 features 96 recipes, 50 QR codes for an interactive experience and 182 images. It presents a narrative of the restaurant’s growth, capturing the essence of its space, people, service and culinary offerings, along with the recognition it has garnered through various accolades.

The format replicates the first volume, comprising two parts: a philosophical exposition and a catalogue with recipes and the meticulous step-by-step documentation, mirroring the restaurant’s creative process. The visuals by Francesc Guillamet and the art direction by Zoo Studio, both integral to the first volume, continue to bring Disfrutar’s culinary art to life in this sequel.

Priced at 225 euros, the bilingual publication is available in Spanish and English. It can be purchased at bookshops, major online retailers, the restaurants Compartir and Disfrutar, and their online store.

Disfrutar Vol. 1 received significant acclaim, including the National Gastronomy Award 2021 for Best Gastronomic Communication by the Royal Academy of Gastronomy among other honours. This set a high benchmark for editorial works within the food community.

The second volume captures the chefs’ relentless pursuit of innovation, featuring 126 of their finest dishes from 2018-2020, each a testament to their original techniques and concepts. Last June, Disfrutar ascended to second place on the 2023 list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, a testament to its creative excellence.
