Reasons to stay in New Jersey while visiting NYC

Reasons to stay in New Jersey while visiting NYC

Visiting New York City doesn’t always have to mean staying in New York City. The prices are high, there is tons of congestion, and it’s not always easy to find a place. If you’re planning a trip to NYC, you may want to consider staying in nearby New Jersey instead. It may not be the New York trip you always dreamed about, but it could be better in some ways. Here are some reasons to consider booking your lodging in New Jersey the next time you plan a trip to New York City.

Easy transportation to the city

Staying in New Jersey doesn’t mean you can’t get to New York City. There are several ways to get from hotels in Jersey to NYC. The PATH Subway is one of the quickest and most affordable ways to travel between NYC and New Jersey, linking Newark, Hoboken, and Jersey City to Midtown Manhattan. Meanwhile, several NY Waterway ferries run regularly from New Jersey to NYC, offering lovely views along the way. Taxis and buses offer additional options, although they can be a little more expensive. Once you figure out where in New Jersey you’ll be staying, it shouldn’t be hard to find the best method of getting to New York.

Plenty of hotel options

Speaking of staying in New Jersey, you’ll find that there is no shortage of options. Both the Meadowlands and the area around Newark Airport offer a wide variety of mid-range hotels that are roughly half of what you might pay for a room in Manhattan. You can also consider hotels in places like Jersey City, Hoboken, or West New York. These areas are right on the Hudson River, providing easy access to New York. In fact, hotel rooms in these cities that face east will have a view of the NYC skyline that’s probably better than the view in most Manhattan hotels.

Saving money

Naturally, the biggest reason to stay in New Jersey is to save money. As mentioned, some hotels in New Jersey could be half as much per night as Manhattan hotels. This could mean saving $100 or more per night during your trip. That gives you more money to spend on your trip other than a hotel room that you’ll mostly just be using to sleep. Saving this money could mean being able to afford a Broadway show or being able to afford better restaurants. In other words, the money you’ll save by staying in New Jersey will help you have a better overall trip.

New Jersey attractions

Even if New York City is your main destination, don’t think that New Jersey doesn’t have fun things for tourists as well. Cities like Hoboken, Newark, and Jersey City also have amazing museums. Some of these cities, including Liberty State Park in Jersey City, offer some of the best vantage points of Manhattan. New Jersey is also home to amusement parks, beaches, pro sports franchises, and malls for unforgettable shopping excursions.
