The Ox opens on Clapham High Street: traditional British pub vibes with Pan-Asian flavours

The Ox London, has recently opened its doors on Clapham High Street, with a traditional British pub atmosphere blending a modern menu incorporating Pan-Asian influences. This latest venture from the team behind The Rose & Crown aims to provide a food offering that features ethically and sustainably sourced beef from family farms in Melrose, Scotland.

The establishment comprises a variety of spaces, such as a main bar, a 30-cover mezzanine restaurant, a rooftop terrace, and a private events room capable of accommodating up to 55 guests. The interior design, executed by Hadley Interiors, combines modern touches with traditional elements like classic wood panelling and vintage furniture, creating a warm and inviting environment.

The menu at The Ox highlights seasonal British ingredients through a range of dishes that cater to various dining preferences, from Sunday lunch to bar snacks. Standout items include Black Pudding Scotch Egg with Pickled Onion Mayonnaise, Japanese Smashed Burger with Bone Marrow Kewpie, and King Scallops accompanied by Crispy Thai chicken Wing and Pickled Ginger. For those with a plant-based diet, the vegan Maple and Soy-baked Swede with Onion Dashi, Katsu, and Crispy Vermicelli is a notable option.

The Ox takes pride in its farm-to-fork philosophy, with all its beef dry-aged on-site. Noteworthy dishes in this direction include Fillet of Scottish Luing Beef with Smoked Eel and Potato Terrine, Beef Bourguignon Pie with Oyster Fritter, and Porterhouse Steak designed for sharing.

Desserts at The Ox are made to evoke nostalgia, to choose among the Traditional Trifle served family-style from a retro trifle trolley, Sticky Toffee Pudding with stout toffee sauce, and a Coconut and Kaffir Lime Panna Cotta topped with pineapple and candied cashews.

The drink selection complements the food offerings with a mix of classic and creative cocktails, including a traditional Tom Collins, a Spicy Margarita, and a pina colada-inspired cocktail called The Green Park. The pub also boasts a selection of trusted local craft beers and a carefully curated wine list.
