Bridget Jones returns in Mad About the Boy for a Valentine’s Day premiere in UK cinemas

The beloved character Bridget Jones is set to return to the big screen in the UK on 14th February with the latest instalment, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Directed by Michael Morris and featuring a star-studded cast including Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Chiwetel Ejiofor and newcomer Leo Woodall, the film promises to explore the next chapter of Bridget’s eventful life.

In this new narrative, Bridget Jones, portrayed by two-time Academy Award-winner Renée Zellweger, finds herself navigating life as a widow and single mother to her two children, nine-year-old Billy and four-year-old Mabel. The plot thickens as Bridget, encouraged by her close circle of friends and family, returns to the workforce and ventures into the world of online dating, where she encounters a younger man who shows keen interest in her.

The screenplay, penned by Helen Fielding based on her novel, with contributions from Abi Morgan and Dan Mazer, explores Bridget’s challenges in balancing her personal and professional life. Her experiences are marked by humorous yet poignant interactions, particularly with her son’s scientifically minded teacher, played by Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner and Jo Wallett under the banner of Working Title Films, known for their critically acclaimed productions such as The Danish Girl and Darkest Hour. The film is a collaborative effort with Universal Pictures, Studiocanal and Miramax, and will be available for streaming in the US exclusively on Peacock following its theatrical release.

The release of this film marks the fourth instalment in the Bridget Jones series, which began with Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001. The series has been a global success, grossing over $800 million worldwide and garnering a dedicated fan base.

Fans of Bridget Jones can look forward to another heartwarming and humorous adventure that aims to bring laughter, love and a bit of awkwardness back to the big screen this Valentine’s Day.
