“This is like a dream – Nick Frost meets horror”: Sebastian Croft and Maisie Ayres on Get Away

Steffen Haars’s Get Away marries comedy with folk horror, following the Smith family – Richard (Nick Frost), Susan (Aisling Bea) and their children, Sam (Sebastian Croft) and Jessie (Maisie Ayres) – as they find themselves ensnared in the unsettling traditions and secrets of Svälta, a remote Swedish island steeped in macabre history, as the sinister Karantän festival draws near. The script, penned by Frost, crafts a fast-paced and ominous narrative that keeps audiences simultaneously laughing and on edge. Amid the eerie backdrop, the humorously dysfunctional dynamics of the British-Irish household steal the show, with the bumbling parents providing unexpected highlights. Adding to the charm are the bickering teenage siblings: Sam, a proud vegetarian, and the unpredictable Jessie, who is the first to suspect that something isn’t quite right.

Ahead of the film’s debut on Sky Cinema, Sebastian Croft and Jessie spoke to The Upcoming about their roles, reflecting on how their personal experiences, favourite films and songs informed their performances, what attracted them to Frost’s script, their on-set dynamic with their on-screen parents, and much more.
