Roti Chai launches vegan bun samosa in Marylebone for Veganuary

Roti Chai is offering a new plant-based lunch option for Veganuary this January with the Bun Samosa, now available at its Street Kitchen in Marylebone. The dish, inspired by Himalayan street food, is being served throughout the month as a vegan-friendly alternative for those seeking to participate in the annual Veganuary campaign. Priced at under £10, it’s aimed at diners looking for affordable, flavourful fare in central London.

The restaurant’s Bun Samosa features the eponymous vegetable pastry, smashed and layered with green chutney slaw and house chutneys, and all encased in a soft roll. They explain it is intended to provide a comforting option during the cold winter months, describing the new offering as an elevated chip butty, with a proper chilli kick”. Roti Chai’s Street Kitchen offers additional bun-based options for those not following a vegan diet such as Bun Chilli Chicken and Bun Kebab, allowing groups with mixed dietary preferences to eat together. They also highlight their signature cocktails, with a Happy Hour running from 3pm to 7pm, Sunday to Friday, during which selected cocktails are available for £7.

The bun samosa, also known as a “bun sam”, originates from the North Indian mountain state of Himachal Pradesh, where it is a popular roadside snack. Roti Chai’s version introduces the classic comfort food to a wider London audience – including those observing Veganuary. According to Roti Chai, it’s “pure comfort food and a perfect anteidote to the January winter blues – while still ticking the plant-based box”. Its introduction at the London pitstop reflects a wider trend as more restaurants expand their plant-based offerings in response to growing demand. Veganuary, which encourages people to try a plant-based diet for the first month of the year, has seen increasing participation, prompting venues across the capital to adapt their menus accordingly.

Roti Chai’s new dish is available for dine-in at its Marylebone location throughout January.
