Morcheeba releases new single Call for Love in celebration of their 30th anniversary

Morcheeba, the famed trip-hop band, has released a new single titled Call For Love, marking their first new music since the 2021 album Blackest Blue. This release, which debuted on 100% Records, is part of the celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary. The single was produced by band member Ross Godfrey and features the distinctive vocals of Skye Edwards.

Call for Love is described by Godfrey as “very grounding, musically and emotionally”, reflecting on the complexities and challenges of the modern world. “An apocalypse is always on the horizon, both personal and global. It is comforting to take refuge in music and love with those close to us,” he explained. Edwards added insight into the lyrical inspiration: “When it came to writing lyrics for this song, I thought to myself ‘what would I like to hear from a certain someone, if and when they were ready to say sorry.’ As it turned out, it was also what I needed to say to them.”

The track, characterised by a hazy, laid-back vibe with reverb-drenched sounds, is a quintessential Morcheeba production that introduces their upcoming album, scheduled for release later this year.

Morcheeba, established in London in 1995, has been a significant presence on the global music scene, having sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Their debut album Who Can You Trust? was released in 1996, and since then, the band has produced ten studio albums, including the 1998 platinum-selling Big Calm. They have also worked with notable figures such as David Byrne from Talking Heads and have contributed to soundtracks for Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh.

As they celebrate their 30th year, Morcheeba’s influence in the music industry remains as relevant as ever. The band continues to tour globally and has a significant following that spans decades. The release of Call for Love not only marks a milestone in their illustrious career but also reaffirms their enduring appeal and musical evolution.
