Wet Leg announces new album moisturizer and releases single as UK tour looms

British indie rock band Wet Leg, hailing from the Isle of Wight, has announced the release of their second album titled moisturizer, set to debut on 11th July. The group has also released a new single catch these fists, accompanied by a music video, as they prepare for a UK tour in May, including a performance at London’s Brixton Academy and appearances at major festivals such as Glastonbury and Primavera.

Wet Leg, consisting of founders Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, along with bandmates Ellis Durand, Henry Holmes and Joshua Mobaraki, have crafted an album described as “fun and freaky and fabulous”. The record reflects the band’s evolved live performance capabilities, honed through extensive global tours. Following their debut album’s success, which included chart-topping hits and multiple awards such as three Grammys and two Brits, Wet Leg chose to continue with their unique musical style rather than shifting towards a more mainstream pop sound.

The band’s decision to work again with producer Dan Carey is evident in the new album’s direction, which includes contributions from all five members. “We were just kind of having fun and exploring,” Chambers remarked on the album’s creation process. Teasdale added, “We focused on: Is this going to be fun to play live? It was very natural that we would write the second record together.”

The lead single, catch these fists, showcases an electrifying mix of dance-punk elements, with bass notes and howling synth creating a compelling sound. The video for the single, directed by the band and shot on the Isle of Wight, draws inspiration from directors Ti West and Cameron Crowe, and echoes the aesthetic of their previous Wet Dream video.

moisturizer promises a diverse range of themes, from manic love songs to emphatic dismissals. Despite Teasdale’s previous reluctance to write love songs, the album predominantly explores themes of love in various forms – stressed, infatuated, lustful and mysterious. The artwork for moisturizer features Chambers and Teasdale with exaggerated, ghoulish features, reflecting the album’s bold and unapologetic tone.
