Diego Andres Rodriguez joins Rachel Zegler in West End’s Evita revival at London Palladium

Diego Andres Rodriguez has been cast as Che in the upcoming West End production of Evita, joining Rachel Zegler, who will portray Eva Perón. The show, directed by Jamie Lloyd, is scheduled to run at the London Palladium from 14th June to 6th September 2025, with the official opening night on 1st July. This production is brought to life by Michael Harrison for Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals and Jamie Lloyd for The Jamie Lloyd Company.

Lloyd expressed his enthusiasm about Rodriguez’s involvement, stating, “Before he even graduated, Diego made his professional debut as Artie in our production of Sunset Blvd on Broadway, in which he also understudied and played the leading role, Joe Gillis. He is an incredible young actor and a fantastic vocalist. We’re so thrilled he will be making his West End debut in Tim and Andrew’s iconic musical.”

Rodriguez shared his excitement, saying, “I’m beyond thrilled to be making my West End debut in Evita this summer at the historic London Palladium! Being directed by Jamie Lloyd again, working with The Jamie Lloyd Company’s incredible team, and playing Che opposite Rachel is an opportunity of a lifetime. This is a dream come true!”

Evita, with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, explores the life of Argentine political leader Eva Perón, examining her rise from poverty to becoming one of the most powerful women in Latin America. The musical features iconic songs such as Don’t Cry For Me Argentina and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.

In an effort to make theatre accessible, the production will offer 5,000 tickets at £25 each for individuals under 30, key workers and those receiving government benefits. .

The show is produced in collaboration with The Really Useful Group Ltd, and it marks a continuation of Lloyd’s vision, having previously directed Evita at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2019. This new staging at The London Palladium aims to provide a fresh perspective to the beloved musical.

This revival of Evita not only brings a classic musical back to the London stage but also introduces promising talent in what could be landmark roles for both Zegler and Rodriguez.
