Suranne Jones leads high-stakes political thriller Hostage, launching on Netflix this August

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for Hostage, a taut new five-part limited series set to premiere globally on 21st August. The series marks the streaming debut of Suranne Jones, who both stars and serves as executive producer.

Created by Bridge of Spies and Treason writer Matt Charman, Hostage weaves a tightly wound political thriller with international stakes. When the British Prime Minister’s husband is kidnapped during a state visit, and the French President is simultaneously blackmailed, the two leaders are forced into a deadly strategic dance – torn between personal loyalty and political survival. With power, reputation and lives on the line, cooperation may be their only hope in unravelling the dangerous conspiracy that binds their fates.

Jones leads a powerhouse cast that includes Julie Delpy, Corey Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo, Martin McCann and Jehnny Beth. The series is produced by Netflix in association with Binocular, with Charman writing and executive producing. Foz Allan and Steve Searle also serve as executive producers, with David Meanti as series producer. Direction is shared between Isabel Sieb and Amy Neil.

With its blend of psychological suspense, political intrigue, and personal peril, Hostage looks set to deliver a gripping ride through the corridors of power – and the dark spaces just beyond them.
