First look at James L Brooks’s Ella McCay, starring Emma Mackey, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kumail Nanjiani and Woody Harrelson

20th Century Studios has unveiled the trailer and poster for Ella McCay, the new comedy written and directed by Oscar- and Emmy-winning filmmaker James L Brooks. The film is set to open exclusively in cinemas on 12th December 2025.

An idealistic young woman juggles family life and a high-pressure career in this story about the people you love – and how to survive them. The film stars Emma Mackey in the title role, alongside a standout ensemble including Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Lowden, Kumail Nanjiani, Ayo Edebiri, Spike Fearn, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks, Albert Brooks and Woody Harrelson.

Ella McCay marks Brooks’s first directorial feature since Spanglish and brings together themes of politics, personal growth and familial chaos in the director’s signature heartfelt comedic style.

Brooks also produces the film with Richard Sakai, Julie Ansell and Jennifer Brooks. Check out the brand-new trailer below!
