The Clermont, Victoria launches Wicked-themed afternoon tea inspired by West End musical

On 1st November, The Tea Lounge at The Clermont, Victoria, will launch a new themed afternoon tea menu inspired by the West End musical, Wicked. The menu, aptly named the Wicked Afternoon Tea, has been developed in partnership with the long-running stage production at the Apollo Victoria Theatre, and will be served at the hotel just down the road. The offering is aimed at afternoon tea enthusiasts seeking a themed dining experience before or after attending the theatre.

The menu features a selection of sweet and savoury items, including traditional finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones and desserts inspired by characters and themes in the story. Among the visually distinctive confections are The Witch’s Hat, a chocolate brownie topped with a glossy glaze, and Emerald Delight, a lime and white chocolate dessert finished with a green glaze. Other items include the Popular-ly Pink raspberry and white chocolate macaron, and Spellbinding Temptation, a strawberry mousse on sponge with crisp rice pops. There are also scones served with Devonshire clotted cream and both strawberry and raspberry preserves.

The savoury selection includes smoked salmon and cream cheese, smoked ham with tomato and mustard, cucumber, and egg mayonnaise sandwiches. Guests have a choice of teas to choose from, as well as the option to enhance the experience with a glass of sparkling wine for an additional £10 or select from two themed cocktails. The Wicked combines Hendrick’s gin, kiwi purée, cucumber syrup and sparkling wine, while The Good is made with Chambord, raspberry and strawberry liqueurs, also topped with sparkling wine.

Wicked, which has become one of the longest-running musicals in West End history, continues its open-ended run. Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel and inspired by L Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (as well as recently getting the movie treatment), the staging explores the backstory of the witches of Oz. The Clermont’s afternoon tea in honour of the iconic show is priced at £55 per person and will be served daily from 12.30 to 4.30pm, making it an option for before or after a matinee or prior to an evening performance.
