“He’s just discovering a colourful way of life”: Allan Deberton, Teca Pereira and Lázaro Ramos on Gugu’s World at Berlin Film Festival 2026
Director Allan Deberton, joined by lead actors Teca Pereira and Lázaro Ramos, discussed their heartwarming film Gugu’s World (Feito Pipa) at the Berlin Film Festival 2026. Deberton shared his deeply personal connection to the story, rooted in childhood fears and the bond with his own grandmother. He emphasised the film’s core as a love story, portraying the evolving, beautiful relationship between Gugu and his grandmother Dilma, who supports Gugu as he’s “just discovering a colourful way of life”. The director articulated his vision: “Our fear in the end is losing the people who take care of us,” highlighting the universal anxieties and profound bonds explored. Teca Pereira powerfully embodied Dilma, whose character navigates both vibrant energy and the challenging realities of ageing, particularly in the moving Time After Time scene. Lázaro Ramos praised the director’s sensibility, and the cast collectively celebrated the film’s unique setting in the Brazilian Northeast and its honest depiction of family, connection, and identity.
