The BBC comedy Ghosts is getting a film adaptation, with Ghosts: The Possession of Button House scheduled for release in UK and Ireland cinemas on 23ʳᵈ October 2026.

A first look image has been released as production continues, although details about the story are being kept under wraps.

The film brings back the original cast, including Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, alongside Charlotte Ritchie, Kiell Smith-Bynoe and Lolly Adefope. Simon Hynd, who directed episodes of the series, is behind the camera.

The TV show, which ran for five series on BBC One, became one of the UK’s most popular comedies, with its final episode attracting more than 7 million viewers. It follows a group of ghosts from different historical periods who haunt a country house, alongside the couple who inherit it.

While it’s not yet clear how the story will continue on the big screen, the Halloween release suggests the film may lean further into the show’s supernatural elements.

The series has also been adapted internationally, most notably in the US, where it is currently in its fifth season.
