Cathy Newman steps into primetime with new Sky News flagship show
Sky News is launching a new evening programme fronted by Cathy Newman, with The Cathy Newman Show set to debut on 27th April.
Airing at 7pm from Monday to Thursday, the programme will combine political interviews, investigations and debate, while also streaming live on YouTube as part of a broader push towards digital-first viewing.
Newman said the show aims to feel “less performative, more podcast”, moving away from the rapid-fire style of traditional political interviews in favour of longer, more revealing conversations. Describing the tone as “forensic but friendly”, she added that the goal is to create space for guests to properly engage, rather than simply deliver rehearsed lines.
Set in a newly designed Westminster studio centred around an orange velvet sofa, the programme will bring together political figures and public voices for more open exchanges – including, at times, guests with opposing views.
Reflecting on the current media landscape, Newman noted that politics has become “shoutier” in recent years, with interviews often constrained by time and format. The new show, she suggested, is an attempt to cut through that noise with more depth and clarity.
Alongside headline interviews and analysis, the programme will feature exclusive investigations and original reporting, with longer-form documentaries also in development. A companion podcast is expected to follow later this year.
The Cathy Newman Show launches on Sky News and YouTube on 27th April at 7pm.
