Cold War space race gets a twist in first trailer for Apple TV’s Star City

Apple TV+ has released the first trailer for Star City, a new alt-history drama that reimagines the space race through a very different lens.

Set in the same world as For All Mankind, the series explores a timeline in which the Soviet Union beats the United States to the moon – but this time, the story unfolds from behind the Iron Curtain. The trailer teases a tense, character-driven take on the era, blending political intrigue with the high-stakes pressure of the space programme.

Rather than focusing solely on astronauts, Star City follows a wider network of figures, including cosmonauts, engineers and intelligence officers, all navigating the risks and secrecy surrounding the Soviet mission.

The eight-part series comes from For All Mankind creators Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert and Ronald D Moore, with Wolpert and Nedivi also serving as showrunners.

The cast includes Rhys Ifans, Anna Maxwell Martin, Agnes O’Casey, Alice Englert and Adam Nagaitis, among others.
