Dunder Mifflin’s documentary crew is back as The Paper returns for season two
The cameras are rolling again at the Toledo Truth Teller as The Paper returns for a second season this September, bringing Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore and the rest of the newsroom ensemble back for another round of workplace chaos.
The comedy, which takes place in the same universe as the US version of The Office, follows the documentary crew that once chronicled life at Dunder Mifflin as they turn their attention to a struggling historic Midwestern newspaper. Gleeson returns as editor Ned Sampson alongside Impacciatore as Esmeralda Grand, with Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Tim Key, Ramona Young, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr, Alex Edelman and The Office alumnus Oscar Nuñez also returning.
After the newspaper’s success at the Ohio Journalism Awards, season two finds Ned searching for a new journalistic crusade and setting his sights on a local private club – a pursuit that could put the paper itself at risk. His relationship with Mare also becomes increasingly complicated, while Esmeralda attempts to find her place and the staff continue their transformation into actual reporters.
A number of new faces are joining the newsroom’s orbit, including Jon Lovitz, Andy Richter, Lisa Gilroy, Matt Braunger, Toks Olagundoye and Phil Hendrie. The series is created, written and executive produced by The Office‘s Greg Daniels and Nathan for You‘s Michael Koman, with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant among the executive producers.
While The Paper borrows the mockumentary framework and documentary crew of its predecessor, its second season continues building out its own workplace – swapping the business of selling paper for the increasingly precarious business of trying to keep a local newspaper alive.
