Creatures brought to life at Lou Lou & Oscar
If you love animals and you love your homewares all cute and fuzzy then Lou Lou and Oscar are for you.
Lou Lou and Oscar is the working name of Lisa Aaron, a self-taught designer and maker of things. After completing studies in English Literature & Modern Continental Philosophy she worked as a librarian in London for many years. However, since 2009 she has focused on designing and making heirloom creatures and contemporary wall hangings.
There’s something quite kitsch about Lou Lou and Oscar, but it’s not that in-your-face colour pop kitsch. It’s all about soft colours and vintage fabrics, almost fifties-esque. The cat people are adorable and their outfits are extremely cute. If you want a cute little stocking filler for a friend, or maybe even yourself, the cloth stars would be perfect.
It may look vintage but what inspires Lisa? “Whatever I am reading at the time inspires me, not always obviously, usually a trace of an atmosphere that permeates the work. The written word, fragments of text, cryptozoology, the Polar regions, hybridity, the amazingly generous makers I have met over the years, so many sources of inspiration really.” Serge catty catty has possibly been inspired by the Owl and the Pussycat and is a great piece for a child’s bedroom.
It has to be said if you love Cath Kidston then you will probably love Lou Lou and Oscar.
