Temporal Flux: A vintage jewellery wonderland
Look at what we’ve stumbled across! Linda Chima is the creator and owner of Temporal Flux, an online jewellery store a little bit closer to home. Based in Birmingham, UK, Linda started making jewellery by chance.
The first items she made came from broken pieces that she had mended herself. From there, she moved onto making other accessories, sticking brooches onto headbands or seeing items in craft shops and making them into exclusive pieces. The success of Linda’s etsy store has seen her being featured in the Guardian’s 2011 Christmas gift guide (read it here) for her fuzzy cat rings.
At school, Linda was never enthusiastic towards learning and spent most of her youth wandering around London exploring the world she lived in. Her educational background does not reflect her creative talents either, studying science and maths at A Level, and working in a library for an oil company. She has also found the time to bring up 4 children of her own.
The name Temporal Flux is contemplative of Linda’s scientific background combined with her recycling style craft. She enjoyed watching a lot of Star Trek and always loved the idea of reusing materials, even LEGO – because she doesn’t think it should just be for children.
Referring to herself as “a bit of a womble,” Linda’s interests stem the ideas she has for her jewellery. She has always collected odd bits and pieces and often re-sold them, something that completely identifies and makes her online collection. She also loves rummaging at car boots and jumble sales for new ideas for her trinkets. During her days new ideas will just come into her head as she is going about her everyday activities, which then form the basis of her jewellery-making. Most recent inspiration has included ideas for horror-themed pieces that we might see in the near future.
Despite wanting everything available to buy, special picks are the tabby kitten necklace pendent, the Mary Poppins-themed necklace and the tiny teacup rings.
Each piece represents Linda’s inimitable personality and style, and ultimately makes a statement no matter what your outfit choice.
