Last night at the Troxy in East London, the annual Limelight Film Awards took place. The Limelight Film Awards celebrate and highlight emerging film talent across London. With over 230 submissions this time, the awards ceremony is gaining momentum year on year.
Attendees were welcomed with red carpet treatment and champagne glasses filled with a pre-mixed tea based cocktail made by Royal Spirits, before entering the inspiring and lavishly adorned auditorium.
The MC for the evening was Kat Boyce of MTV Base fame. His flamboyant, hyperactive performance throughout was the driving force behind the entertainment for the evening, being one of the only people to grace the stage able to project their voice into a microphone.
Live musical performances were dotted among the awards, with musicians including Ryan Keen, Nadeem Leigh, Alim Kamara and Carla Thomas, with Fatboyz Dance Company performing at the beginning of the evening.
There were 14 awards presented: from comedy to thriller, documentary to drama, every area of short cinema was covered. Two of the most deserving of the awards were presented to schools that produced inspiring shorts over the year.
Presenting the awards were some big names in British cinema, among them Silvio Simac (Transporter 3), Martin Gooch (Harry Potter, Eastenders), Gulruk Khan (award winning documentary film maker) and Aradhna Tayal, the head of BBC Shorts. The evening concluded with the presentation of the Film of the Night award, which was given to one of the school short films, Boy Soldiers by Amy Coop and her students aged 11-14.
