Dior’s new darling – Diorling

Dior’s new darling – Diorling

Dior releases a new perfume every year. In 2012, we’ll see the re-launch of the Paul Vacher’s 1963 creation, Diorling.

Dior has attacked with vigilance the perfume market and become a major contributor following in Chanel’s footsteps.

Dior has reformulated famous classics before and although it is always met with criticism from purists, this fragrance has entered with force Les Creations de Monsieur Dior perfume line.

The new version of Diorling is of course very pale and has flowery notes of hyacinth, bergamot, iris, jasmine, rose and lily of the valley. The base notes of the fragrance are heavier and woody consisting of oak, musk, patchouli, vetiver, moss and leather.

What is most important to me in a perfume is not the initial smell – in this case of spring flowers – but the scent once the perfume has settled. Here it stays fresh and vibrant which harks back to its original 1960s marketing of “French attempt at English refinement”.

The bottle and its nostalgic look emphasise the key trends of the fashion market today elegance with a touch of vintage and it would not look out of place on Audrey Hepburn’s dressing table.

Each year, eBay is bombarded with high-priced vintage Diorling bottles and you too can ensure a tidy profit in fifty years’ time if you keep yours spotless – as agreed by many experts, condition is everything – or wear this delicate bouquet garni as nature intended.
