Since his London Fashion Week debut in 2005, Gareth Pugh has deservingly received global recognition for his redefinition of modern luxury.
Today, his autumn/winter 2016 catwalk was shown in Freemasons’ Hall, Covent Garden. The hall was eerie in itself but Pugh decided to go a step further and dress his models in Hannibal Lecter masks (which in the film is used to prevent him from eating anyone!)
The collection was a tribute to women who aren’t afraid to be assertive in their drive to succeed in a male-dominant world. The designer was quoted saying, “I know a lot of strong women and I both fear and love them. They’re the kind of women you really don’t want to cross”.
Pugh’s creations – despite the masks – were not scary at all, but simply mysterious, and the eerie set brought each piece to life as it flowed down the runway. The models were nothing short of dramatic with tight chignons, oversized coats and stiff, shaped clothing. Most of the looks were paired with masks, dominatrix collars and saintly halos.
