Captain America: Civil War press conference full video – Chris Evans: “In real life I would be team Iron Man”
The swanky and prestigious ballroom of the Corinthia Hotel was an apt stage for the greatly anticipated Captain America: Civil War press conference. An unusually large attendance saw thirteen of the film’s talent arrive to represent the superhero teams: Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Emily Van Camp, Daniel Bruhl, Anthony and Joe Russo and Kevin Feige.
From the off answers were delivered with an overriding humour expected from comedic cast, which saw Robert Downey Jr open the conference with “I’m not really here yet, there’s a lot of people, I’m just going to turn around now”. The relaxed atmosphere was continued by Rudd who cheered for being the first Paul to be asked a question, to the scathing reception of Bettany. When it came to substance the cast spoke about their time on set, albeit this quickly divulged to discuss whose trailer (or trailer complex in Robert Downey Jr’s case) was the largest. Frustratingly, the cast remained tight lipped about the future Captain America films: when Daniel Bruhl was asked about playing the villain he coyly avoided answering whether his character was saved so he can feature in subsequent movies.
The film’s directors Anthony and Joe Russo described themselves as having an action fetish which lead to the conception of the sequel. This seemed to be the collective feeling of the cast, that everyone involved was so for a love of the superhero world. Chris Evans, upon receiving the script, said he felt excited but the success had rested on Robert Downey Jr’s acceptance, which elevated the film to what it was.
The Captain America vs Iron Man debate was finally settled when Chris Evans acknowledged in real life he would be team Iron Man, bringing the playful conference to a close.
