Ralph Fiennes has never been an actor who plays it safe, but his latest role might be his most challenging yet. He plays the sad, wise Mikhail Rakitin in Vera Glagoleva’s Two Women, an adaptation of Ivan Turganev’s famous play A Month in the Country. The film is entirely in Russian, meaning Fiennes had to learn a whole new language in order to play the part.

Here, he talks to us about the difficulties of the language barrier, adapting plays for the screen, and the possible implications of Brexit on British filmmakers.
