Louis Verdad presented his sleek autumn/winter 2017 collection at Pier 59 studios. The inspiration for this season was the millennial customer who wants clothes that are streamlined and wearable.

The collection opened with monochromatic white looks that epitomised the minimal elegance he was going for. The collection was driven by daywear looks in muted tones punctuated by plaids that had a slightly 90s feel and an unexpected pop of mustard yellow. Many of the daytime looks also revolved around wide leg trousers that are starting to emerge as a trend for autumn. The trousers looked fresh and cool after so many seasons of skinnies – especially when paired with some of the cropped tops and jackets. Chic layers also permeated the show and helped to show that the outfits could be mixed and matched to suite a day to day lifestyle.

The clothes Verdad created for evening maintained the wearable nature of his daytime looks, while amping things up by injecting the pieces with a bit of sparkle and more voluminous skirts and dresses. Somehow the designer managed to keep things looking sleek even when he added pleating to the mix by keeping the fabrics light and rest of the cuts spare.

The collection was as chic as it was wearable and should be a smashing success with his target customer. These pieces could easily be mixed into a wardrobe to give the wearer a fresh take on fashion for fall.
