The new look for toddlers and children: Rusks & Rebels

The new look for toddlers and children: Rusks & Rebels

A rusk is a hard, dry biscuit or twice-baked bread. It is often given as food to babies when they are teething. A rebel makes me think of James Dean – someone who defies authority. Hence, Rusks & Rebels could not be a more fitting name for a toddler and children’s clothing line.

Rusks & Rebels began with the simple idea of creating funky T-shirts for the owner’s two rebels, Dylan and Cameron. After drafting designs for her children, the prospect of producing a collection of baby clothing and a children’s line was recognised.

Ranging from a new-born range to a twelve-year-old’s line, Rusks & Rebels uses only ethical and environmentally friendly materials in their designs. The designs are, needless to say, original, reasonable and extremely cool.

This little munchkin here could not look any happier in his personalised date-of-birth romper. The barcode is an image of either a tractor or train for a boy, or a pram or pony for a girl. For the price of £15, your toddler will be super-duper pleased.

Another great design is this stripy bodysuit and matching hat, with “9 Months On The Inside” written across it. What an original idea!

When Rusks & Rebels was born in 2011, the motivation behind it was the possibility of its leading to future employment for the founder’s son Dylan, who has a rare chromosome disorder called Williams Syndrome. The syndrome affects all areas of Dylan’s development; he is a 10-year-old boy living with the height, weight, educational and emotional development of a five or six-year-old. Despite his future health looking positive, his lack of development makes for an ambiguous future in terms of employment.

Rusks & Rebels’s “motivation to provide future security and employment for Dylan has evolved into a dream one day to be able to offer paid employment opportunities, for not just Dylan, but for many adults that are living with learning and developmental difficulties.”

Keeping this all in mind, the brand is about making children happy. For the older children, T-shirts such as “A Few Of My Favourite Things” makes children aware of their likes and dislikes. What better way for them to explore their own character?

The “Future Star” range of hoodies gives them the boost they need to pursue their passion at a young age.

And for those children dreaming to be Superman or Spiderman, there’s the “Superboy” T- shirt range, costing £20. It is such a personalised gift, as you can submit your child’s photo to be the face of this superhero.

With such a tender-hearted concept, I would promote people to purchase their children’s clothes from Rusks & Rebels; to support their dream. Your kids want to be cool and have their own quirky style, so why not give them that opportunity?
