Birds of a feather, Rutter style

Birds of a feather, Rutter style

Fashion and nature are two of our favourite things this spring at The Upcoming, and no one does this better than Joanna Rutter, a renowned Brighton inhabitant and foxy jewellery designer.

Celebrating the beginning of summer, Rutter’s collection consists of handmade pieces with a heavy emphasis on natural materials and botanical inspiration, here at The Upcoming we have picked out a few to get your heart racing.

Let us begin with the earrings: mountains, branches, nimbuses, chicks, rock coral, all there look fabulous; but our favourites have to be the tiny Fox and Forest earrings. These handcrafted sterling silver earrings – of a branch and a fox – have a great, subtle, roll-print textured finish, and are big enough to be noticed but small enough for your partner not to realise what the electricity money went on!

Now that we have adorned our ears, our necks have to be accessorised with necklaces. With our favourite pieces called Salut and Flora, the selection could not be better crafted. And this time we have chosen to show you a super special, walnut wood, scallop-bird necklace, cut with delicacy and waxed with love. It is lightweight and would be great to place over a spring jumper on a pub date.

Earrings, tick; necklaces, tick; next stop: rings! They certainly require a big “ahoy!” as they are nautical in style (sorry for horrendous joke!) with a bright silver or oxidised-finish. They are handmade to your ring size and colour choice, you lucky things!

With spring finally here, we point you in the direction of the brooches and badges collection, great for adding a bit of zing to last season’s summer jacket or coat. There is also the homeware collection for the wedding-gift conundrum; and as always we urge you, not to simply take our word for it, but to check it out. And you can do this right here.

What do you think? Which other pieces are you totally in love with, and which one could you not live without another day? If you just are not quite 100% convinced, be aware that a lot are limited editions; okay, I can hear you logging on now!
