GANT launch new line featuring recycled ocean plastic

Known as the Original Shirtmaker, American sportswear giant GANT have just launched a new line featuring recycled ocean plastic and it’s just as cool as you think it is. It’s named the Beacons Project and GANT want to align sustainability with practicality to their preppy American aesthetic, and as far as green goes it’s not stopping there.

Working as an addition to their Tech Prep range, GANT’s new line of shirts started life at the bottom of the Mediterranean sea. By gathering some of the 165 million tones of plastic floating in the ocean, GANT have worked alongside company Seaqual, fabrics for a cleaner ocean, to create the Beacons Project. With these bottles, straws and other objects, GANT have upcycled to create yarns and buttons for shirts and polos creating their greenest collection yet, without compromising on comfort or style.

“Through [the] Beacons Project we are launching an entirely new process of creating beautiful products with a conscious, sustainable approach, which will further grow and evolve over time,” said Gant CMO Brian Grevy in a release. Grevy’s goal is to see more innovative sustainable materials worked into all of GANT’s lines in the future.

GANT have been marching to the beat of their Never Stop Learning drum for over a year now, with building a more sustainable brand very much at the forefront of the label moving forward. This year, the brand also announced a partnership with Waterkeeper Alliance, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to protecting water sources from pollution. It’s exciting to see GANT take steps needed for a greener fashion industry alongside industry leaders like Toms and Stella McCartney. Because, let’s face it, the world’s business, is everyone’s business.

Check out what GANT are doing to improve on sustainability. Will you be upgrading your shirt for something a little greener?
