Met Gala 2018: Red carpet

Met Gala 2018: Red carpet

Understandably, it took many years for the theme of this year’s Met Gala to be approved by The Vatican. Thankfully, 2018 was the year the event curator was finally given the go ahead and we were able to see the looks from, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, in all of their breathtaking splendor. It was truly a magnificent display of talent and commitment to art through fashion. We were absolutely stunned by all that walked the red carpet for the most prestigious style event of the year.

In one of the night’s most memorable looks, Rhianna displayed a wonderfully literal take on the theme in a heavily embellished mini dress, floor length robe, and mitre.

Perfectly angelic, Sienna Miller was stunning in a white and gold floor length gown with a delicate crown atop her blonde locks.

In a crimson ball gown, Anne Hathaway kept her make-up to a minimum and wore her hair up, decorated with a halo of perfectly placed golden quills.

Perhaps one of the less obviously Catholic looks from the night came in the form of two time Oscar winner, Frances McDormand. The actress wore a lavish teal cape and a headdress made of what we think are leaves? We almost didn’t see you there Frances!

Looking like a beautiful renaissance princess, Amanda’s sensational gown was made in the specific shade of yellow used on the Vatican Flag.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a vision in her sparkling white gown and flowing cape. Her angelic presence was perfectly polished with a thin gold halo crown.

With her striking blonde hair almost as long as the train on her gown, Rita Ora glided down the red carpet in a black embroidered dress fit for a Gothic princess.

In one of our favourite looks of the night, Emilia Clarke arrived in a fittingly dramatic black and gold gown adorned with fabric images of painted cherubs on the skirt.

Wearing arguably the most impressive ensemble, Katy Perry wowed us all with her accurate imitation of an angel, complete with a pair of full sized wings!

How on earth Blake Lively made it to the museum in this astonishing gown we will never know but we are more than grateful that she did!
