Hide and Jamie Oliver win big at GQ Food & Drink Awards 2019

Celebrating the vibrant British food and drink scene, GQ announced the winners of its annual awards in front of a crowd of industry professionals, from chefs to restaurant managers and mixologists, as the sponsor Veuve Clicquot champagne was flowing at Nobu Shoreditch. Hide – Ollie Dabbous’s michelin-starred Mayfair establishment – won Best Restaurant and Jamie Oliver received the Lifetime Achievement Award.

We spoke with Tatiana Fokina – CEO of Hedonism Wine, the backers of the restaurant – and bar manager Oskar Kinberg about their reaction to the announcement. The two shared with us what makes Hide a unique place, and what dishes and cocktails should be tried.

Nuno Mendes, chef of Maõs, Chiltern Firehouse and curator of The Kitchens, was named Best Chef; Andrew Wong took home the Best Restaurateur for A Wong and Kym’s; and Sabor – fresh off their 2019 michelin star – won Best Breakthrough.

Other recipients included Mark Hix for Veuve Cliquot Innovator Award; Rosie Barclay at Restaurant Nathan Outlaw for Best Front of House; Satan’s Whiskers for Best Bar; Matteo Montone of Berners Tavern for Best Sommelier; Kent’s The Fordwich Arms for Best Pub; Annabel’s for Best Interior; and Pertshire’s Gleneagles for Best Overall Experience.

Dylan Jones, editor of British GQ, commented: “Now in its fifth year, the GQ Food & Drink Awards presented by Veuve Clicquot continues to be recognised for its authority in the food and drink industry and we are very proud to be championing the best of the British hospitality business. Congratulations must go to all of our shortlisted candidates as well as our winners and thank you to our esteemed panel of expert judges, together with the discerning readers of GQ whose votes continue to highlight what an exciting varied culinary scene is out there.”
