How to stay fashionable when doing sports

How to stay fashionable when doing sports

More and more of us are turning to sports rather than the treadmill to stay fit, healthy and happy. After all, running around with a bunch of pals playing a game is far better than slogging it in the gym solo. However, we still want to look good when we’re breaking a sweat, so here are some of my tips to stay trendy when doing sports.

Wear great leggings

Thanks to the Athleisure trend exploding a few years ago and not really dying out,  we now look better than ever when we’re doing sports. A huge reason behind this is the slimming and lifting powers of leggings. Pairs like the iconic Flex Legging from Gym Shark that has been blowing up our Instagram feed for a couple of years now but it’s easy to see why. The material is quite thick so does suck you in a little, kind of like Spanx, but its smart design really makes that booty pop! Other brands like Lululemon are also a great go-to for leggings, their all the right places pant literally do what they say on the tin, provide support in all the right places. I own pairs in a few colours and love them when I’m running.

Accessorise

As with any outfit you need accessories to complete the look. Though that may sound crazy when you’re doing sports, staying on trend with funky headbands, or even wireless headphones will just make your ensemble more put together. Asos was even recently seen selling wireless headphones purely as a fashion accessory – no, they didn’t play any music. I always like to wear caps too when playing sports, it keeps the hair out of my face and completes the outfit.

Pay attention to seasonal trends

Athleisure has become an industry in itself, which means you need to stay on top of the trends if you want to stay stylish; this means you can’t just throw on any old pair of leggings. See which colour palettes are hot for this season. As we transition into autumn and winter it’s wise to stick to greys, olives and wine reds, like you would with regular clothes. Baggy, 90s era brands have been making a comeback recently too. 12 months ago, people were wearing poppers and buying Champion hoodies after Khloe Kardashian was spotted in one.

Get a great pair of trainers

Trainers are big business lately and one brand that’s cashing in on the trend is Nike. They’re bringing back a lot of their older styles (a little bit revamped) and people are snapping them up. Right now a pair of 270 reacts in black are my go-to, everyday footwear but for running I swear by my Odyssea React Shield runners. Not do they look great, with their orange sole and sleek navy/grey outer shell, they’re water-resistant, have a quick lace system, and the react base allows for a much more comfortable run – they genuinely add a spring in your step.
