A cocktail recipe for Easter: Appletini

A cocktail recipe for Easter: Appletini

While food is usually the main concern for your Easter meal, we’ve come up with a simple and delicious cocktail recipe that is perfect for this glorious spring weather. There’s something incredibly refreshing about the crunch of a crisp apple, but this tipple takes one of the nation’s favourite fruit to a new level, giving it an air of unrivalled sophistication. Forget Pimms or gin and tonic: this concoction is sure to be your new sunshine staple.

Appletini = Apple Martini

Inspired by cocktail maestro Salvatore Calabrese.

Makes one cocktail

Ingredients

1 ⅔ ounces/50 ml vodka
1 ounce/30 ml apple juice
⅓ ounce/10 ml Cointreau
Apple for garnish

Method

For the apple juice

Peel, core and thinly cut the apple. Put the slices in a small pot, adding water to barely cover the fruit. Bring it to the boil and leave for 20-25 minutess, or until the apple looks very soft. Sift the liquid, mash the apple and sift the pulp so obtained.

For the cocktail

Fill the shaker with ice. Pour all the ingredients and shake well. Strain into the glass (if available, a martini glass). Finish by garnishing with an apple slice on the edge of the glass.
