Bones and All: On the green carpet with director Luca Guadagnino at Zurich Film Festival

One of the most hotly anticipated films this autumn is undoubtedly Luca Guadagnino’s Bones and All. Before its cinematic release in the US at the end of November, the MGM-produced road movie is touring one prestigious film festival after the other: Venice, Telluride, New York, London and Busan, just to name a few.

Based on Camille DeAngelis’s novel, the feature tells the story of Maren Yearly (Taylor Russell), who, abandoned by her father, sets out to look for her mother. The search for identity and freedom unequivocally tied to the genre may sound generic, until one factors in the fact that Maren isn’t an ordinary 18-year-old: she is a cannibal.

On the heels of the Paris fashion week (where he supported his lead actress as she took to the runway), Guadagnino stopped by the Zurich Film Festival, where Bones and All not only celebrated its Swiss premiere but the director was honoured with the festival’s “A Tribute to…” award.

The Upcoming was pleased to speak to the Italian maestro on the green carpet – eliciting the answer to one of the Internet’s most asked questions: who was responsible for choosing Leonard Cohen’s You Want It Darker as the music for the trailer?

Bones and All is in UK cinemas on 23rd November 2022.
