Missy Elliott to make a comeback with two new singles

Though the world of rock is soon to be graced with some less-than-inspiring major releases (Muse, The Killers, Green Day), the world of hip-hop has something to really get excited about: the long overdue return of Missy Elliott.

As announced by her long time collaborator Timbaland via Twitter, she will release two singles, entitled 9th Inning and Triple Threat, at the start of September over America’s Labor Day weekend: “oh snapp yall my sista @MissyElliott is droppin her singles #9thinning and #triplethreat labor day weekend. watch it world we backk!!!”

The most successful female rapper ever, highly regarded for pushing the envelope, raising the bar and doing whatever she wants to critical acclaim, Elliott hasn’t released an album since 2005’s Cookbook and since 2008 has been working on its follow-up, the tentatively titled Block Party. The delay has predominantly been down to Elliott’s struggle with Graves’ disease: “I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen.” Elliott had recently shown signs of activity, however, guesting on albums by artists such as MIA, Katy Perry and J Cole. In April she performed both new songs in New York with Timbaland. Elliott is due to perform with Nas and Timbaland in Miami on 1st September. A release date, as well as a title, for the album is yet to be confirmed.
