Jenson Button drove a near perfect lights to flag race, as he won the Belgian Grand Prix ahead of Sebastain Vettel in the Red Bull.

The McClaren driver clinched pole by just 0.03 seconds in qualifying, but once the 32-year-old had established his lead at the first corner, there was no looking back.

There wasn’t such good luck for his team mate Lewis Hamilton, he along with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso were part of a multi car pile up at the start of the race, caused by Romain Grosjean. Who will now serve a race ban for the incident.

Once the race had restarted on lap five, it was Vettel who was going to be putting all the pressure on Button. The world champion made a number of wonderful overtaking moves, as he made up for lost time.

The German was unable to make up enough ground on Button, but managed to move from 10th to 2nd and a place on the podium.

The victory for Button however, leaves him just 63 points behind leader Alonso, and with 200 points available from the remaining races, Button has his sights on a second world championship title.

“I still can’t get used to this – talking on the podium it’s quite strange.

“But this circuit is so special to most drivers, the way it flows and the history, so to get a victory here is very special in what has not been an easy year for me.” Said Button.

“We can enjoy this for a little while before we head to Monza where we can hopefully do the same.”
