Nina Skarra’s collection was the epitome of Scandinavian simplicity, combining the purity of Scandinavian design with the use of traditional sartorial craftsmanship, quality fabrics and a sustainable production process. All the luxurious fabrics such as silk, twill and wool were all sustainably sourced for the collection. 

Held in the Avery Hall, a building just outside the tents with an open feel – no stage, just seats and a runway – the fabulous effect was not lost on us due to the likes of rapper Lil’ Kim, Angela Simmons, Real Housewife of New York, Alex and few television actors you know but can’t name attending the show. The spring/summer collection was inspired by Nina’s fond memories of her mother and grandmother as style icons – and their wardrobes. Incorporating a sort of roaring 20s theme, with a dash of St Tropez luxe and a pinch of 1960s rebellion. The colour palette was bland, only using blush, pinks, ivory, silver and Cinderella blue. However, the clothing was not so bland. The models walked slowly down the runway, teetering in sky-high heels, in similar hues to their clothing. 

The collection had a lot of ladylike strapless silk organza gowns with several versions of an A-line dress in either backless, strapless, or with sheer overlay and sheer blouses galore, with model’s modest parts covered by an itsy-bitsy white crocheted sticker.  Many of the models sported perfectly combed-back hair, which fell into curls. The others wore a similar style, but with a turban styled headband adding edge to the look. The star of the show was a stunning rose pink and champagne coloured strapless gown, where the bottom half of the dress was made to look like petals falling down the dress.  The collection as a whole was simple, and maybe lacked a little edge, however, it’s those little extra details that Nina Skarra adds to her designs that make it all worthwhile.
