Jordan Peele’s new psychological horror film Him to explore dark side of fame in American football

A new psychological horror film titled Him, produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Jordan Peele, is scheduled for UK cinema release on 19th September 2025, Universal Pictures has announced. The film, directed by Justin Tipping, stars Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers, and explores the dark side of fame and ambition within the world of professional American football.

The story centres on Cameron Cade (played by Tyriq Withers), a promising young quarterback whose life and career are jeopardised after a violent assault by a fan leaves him with a serious brain injury on the eve of the professional football scouting Combine. Facing the end of his athletic aspirations, Cade is unexpectedly offered help by his idol, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), an eight-time championship-winning quarterback and cultural icon. White invites Cade to his secluded training compound, which he shares with his wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox).

As Cade’s rehabilitation and training progress, the relationship between the two men takes a disturbing turn. According to the official synopsis, “Isaiah’s charisma begins to curdle into something darker, sending his protégé down a disorienting rabbit hole that may cost him more than he ever bargained for.” The film poses the question: “What would you sacrifice to become the greatest of all time?”

The supporting cast includes Tim Heidecker, known for his work in alternative comedy, and Australian comedian Jim Jefferies. The film also marks the feature debuts of MMA fighter Maurice Greene, rapper Guapdad 4000, and Grammy-nominated artist Tierra Whack.

Him is produced by Ian Cooper, Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld and Jamal M Watson for Monkeypaw Productions, the company behind previous horror successes such as Get OutUsCandyman and Nope. The screenplay was written by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, creators of the sci-fi series Limetown, alongside director Justin Tipping.
