A new restaurant specialising in Northern Chinese cuisine has opened its doors in South London. Mulan Noodle, located at 192 Acre Lane between Brixton and Clapham, offers a menu centred around hand-pulled noodles and dishes inspired by the street food of Xi’an. The venue was founded by Mina and Kris, both originally from China, who aim to bring “the most authentic and best quality Chinese noodles to London”.

The venue features an open kitchen where diners can observe chefs preparing Biang Biang Noodles and other regional specialities from scratch, using fresh ingredients and traditional methods with no pre-made or frozen elements. All trained in China, the culinary team reportedly have over 30 years of experience making traditional noodles.

On Friday and Saturday evenings, live performances of traditional Chinese music take place at the venue, providing a cultural backdrop to the dining experience. Musicians play authentic instruments such as the guzheng (a 21-string zither) and the pipa (a four-stringed lute).

Mulan Noodle’s menu includes a variety of noodle options, such as Handmade Chilli Oil Noodles (£10.80) and Dry Mixed Noodles (starting at £12.80), with toppings including braised beef shank, brisket, minced beef, tomato and egg, and seasonal vegetables. Classic soup noodles are also available, with broths like Stewed Brisket and Tomato Egg and a choice of four different noodle types. In addition, there is a selection of rice dishes, small plates and street food-style starters, among them Marinated Cucumber (£5.20), Xinjiang Pepper Chicken (£6) and Black Fungus Salad (£5.20). Dumplings and buns are made daily in-house and served pan-fried, steamed or boiled. Finally, there are desserts such as Sichuan Ice Jelly and Mango Pomelo Sago.

Alongside the food offering, the new establishment serves a range of cocktails incorporating Chinese teas, such as the Jade Margarita made with jasmine tea, and the Oolong Eclipse, a twist on the whiskey sour. Bubble tea is available via an adjoining bar, with popular choices including Brown Sugar and Mango Coconut.

Mulan Noodle is open six days a week, from 12pm to 10pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and until 10:30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Bookings can be made via the DOJO platform, though walk-ins are also welcome.
