First trailer released for Nicholas Hytner and Alan Bennett’s The Choral, starring Ralph Fiennes

Sony Pictures has released the official trailer and poster for The Choral, a new historical drama from director Nicholas Hytner and writer Alan Bennett. The film opens exclusively in UK cinemas on 7^th November 2025.

Set in 1916 Yorkshire, The Choral follows the members of a local choral society as they struggle to stay afloat during the First World War. With most of their men conscripted to the front, the committee recruits young local boys to bolster their numbers – and brings in a new chorus master, Dr Henry Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes), an uncompromising figure recently returned from Germany. As conscription looms, the town finds that the only way to hold on to hope is through music.

The film features an ensemble cast including Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Robert Emms and Simon Russell Beale, alongside Fiennes. It marks the fourth collaboration between Hytner and Bennett – following The Madness of King George, The History Boys and The Lady in the Van.

Produced by Kevin Loader, Nicholas Hytner and Damian Jones, The Choral is directed by BAFTA, Olivier and Tony Award winner Hytner, and written by fellow BAFTA, Olivier and Tony winner Bennett.
