Joanna Lumley, Richard Curtis and Beatles family attend exclusive screening of The Beatles Anthology at BFI Southbank

Ahead of its launch on Disney+ today (26 November), an exclusive UK preview screening of The Beatles Anthology took place last night at London’s BFI Southbank – drawing a crowd of high-profile fans and family members to celebrate the much-anticipated re-release of the landmark documentary series.

Guests included Joanna Lumley, Richard Curtis, Felix White, and Beatles relatives Olivia Harrison, Mary McCartney, and Jay and Lee Starkey. The event was held in association with The Rest Is History and also welcomed a host of well-known names from music and entertainment, such as Griff Rhys Jones, Sir Tony Robinson, John Simm, Gary Kemp, and Tim McInnerny.

Hosted by journalist and author Caitlin Moran, the evening featured a special post-screening Q&A with Lumley, Curtis, White, and director Oliver Murray, who helms the new ninth episode in the series.

Originally broadcast in 1995, The Beatles Anthology has been beautifully restored and expanded for its streaming debut on Disney+. Across nine episodes, the series charts the band’s extraordinary rise, cultural impact and lasting legacy, told largely through the words of John, Paul, George and Ringo themselves.

The new final episode includes previously unseen footage of Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr during the making of the original Anthology project in the 1990s – offering fresh insight into the band’s reflections on their own legacy.

Directed by Geoff Wonfor, Bob Smeaton, Mah Longfellow and Oliver Murray, the new edition of The Beatles Anthology has been updated with restored visuals and sound, overseen by Apple Corps and Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post.
