“I believe inside each human being there is an artist”: Mohamed Jabarah Al-Daradji, Hussein Raad Zuwayr and Samar Kazem Jawad on Irkalla – Gilgamesh Dream

Director Mohamed Jabarah Al-Daradji, alongside actors Hussein Raad Zuwayr and Samar Kazem Jawad, discussed Irkalla: Gilgamesh Dream at the Red Sea Film Festival. The movie follows young Chum-Chum and Moody, navigating Baghdad’s harsh streets, whose mythical quest clashes with a ruthless militia. Al-Daradji explained his conviction that his films always spring from “a wound that never heals”, reflecting on the tragic cycle of power in Iraq. He passionately detailed his commitment to working with non-professional actors, stating, “I believe inside each human being there is an artist.” Samar Jawad powerfully recounted her six-month immersion into her challenging role, including learning to drive a bus and embodying Maryam’s resilience despite a broken leg, showcasing the raw talent fostered under his direction.
