Tron: Ares hits Disney+ this January with dazzling visuals and a dark AI twist

A new year brings a new era for Tron, as Tron: Ares lands exclusively on Disney+ from 7th January 2026. Directed by Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil), this latest instalment in the long-running sci-fi franchise transports viewers back to the Grid – and beyond – for a high-stakes battle between artificial intelligence and humanity.
Streaming in IMAX Enhanced for compatible devices, Tron: Ares introduces a fresh chapter that centres on Ares (Jared Leto), a digital soldier created by tech mogul Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters). When Ares is sent into the real world on a dangerous mission, his evolving consciousness sets the stage for a clash of ideologies, ethics and identity. The cast also includes Greta Lee (Past Lives) and Gillian Anderson (The Crown), with a pulsing original score by Nine Inch Nails.
The film arrives following a strong box office run and builds on the visual identity established in Tron: Legacy, with high-concept production design and neon-tinged action sequences. In our review, we praised the “fantastic visuals” and soundtrack that “suits this universe perfectly”.
Tron: Ares joins Tron (1982) and Tron: Legacy (2010), both currently streaming on Disney+, offering viewers the full digital frontier in one place. Whether you’re returning to the Grid or entering it for the first time, the adventure begins on 7th January 2026.
