Sally Field and Lewis Pullman lead Netflix adaptation Remarkably Bright Creatures
Netflix has released the first teaser trailer and images for Remarkably Bright Creatures, the upcoming film adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling novel. Starring Sally Field and Lewis Pullman, the film will debut on the streaming platform on 8ᵗʰ May 2026.
Field plays Tova, a widow who works at a local aquarium and begins to rediscover joy through an unlikely bond with a Giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus. The character will be voiced by Alfred Molina. As Tova navigates grief and loneliness, the connection with the intelligent sea creature leads her into an unexpected mystery.
Pullman stars as Cameron, a young man who arrives in town searching for family and answers about his past. As their stories gradually intertwine, the two uncover secrets that bring them closer to a life-changing discovery.
The supporting cast includes Colm Meaney, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant and Sofia Black-D’Elia.
The film is directed by Olivia Newman, whose previous feature, Where the Crawdads Sing, also adapted a bestselling novel for the screen. Newman co-wrote the screenplay with John Whittington. Producers include Bryan Unkeless and Peter Craig for Night Owl, alongside David Levine for Anonymous Content, with Newman and author Shelby Van Pelt among the executive producers.
Van Pelt’s original novel, published in 2022, spent more than 64 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and became widely known for its mix of mystery, humour and heartfelt storytelling.
