“It’s got a lot of heart, and it’s cute”: Asher Angel and Paris Berelc on Kissing is the Easy Part
Adapted from the popular book of the same name by Christine Duann, Kissing is the Easy Part is a romantic coming-of-age teen drama set in the last year of college, where the only things that matter are high SAT scores, the end-of-year Prom, and trying to fit in with the popular crowd.
When the cool-girl, Flora (Paris Berelc), discovers her latest boyfriend, Tucker (Mark Ballantyne), has cheated on her at a party, she diverts her flirtatious attention to Sean Foster (Asher Angel), the cute “Physics Club President” nerd in their year group. When her well-intentioned parents forge a secret alliance with him to get her to study more, the two are forced to spend more time together, where their own connection deepens, and they soon fall in love.
With nods to well-loved films like Clueless and She’s All That, the narrative explores the turbulent times of navigating high school, college applications and budding romance, but manages to subvert some of the old-age tropes by giving it a contemporary feel. The Upcoming had the pleasure of speaking to Berelc and Angel about coming on board to tell this story, the challenges of filming night shoots and some of their favourite scenes that they hope viewers will enjoy too.
