Anne Hathaway steps into pop stardom in new trailer for David Lowery’s Mother Mary
The latest trailer for Mother Mary has landed, offering a closer look at David Lowery’s stylised pop drama led by Anne Hathaway – and teasing a film that blends music, performance and personal fallout.
Set for release in UK cinemas on 24th April, the film follows Hathaway as a global pop icon preparing for a major comeback. But as she reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer, played by Michaela Coel, old tensions begin to resurface, threatening to derail everything.
The new footage leans into that mix of spectacle and emotion, pairing large-scale performance moments with a more intimate story about friendship, identity and the cost of fame. It also gives a taste of the film’s music, including the newly released track My Mouth Is Lonely For You, performed by Hathaway and written by FKA twigs.
Music plays a central role in the project, with original songs from Jack Antonoff and Charli xcx, alongside additional contributions from FKA twigs. A companion album, Mother Mary: Greatest Hits, is set to arrive on 17th April ahead of the film’s release.
The cast also includes Hunter Schafer, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay and Sian Clifford, adding to a line-up that blends music and film talent.
With Lowery behind the camera and a strong focus on original music, Mother Mary is shaping up to be a distinctive take on the pop star story – one that looks as interested in the emotional cost of fame as it is in the spectacle.
