Adam Scott faces eerie visions in UK trailer for horror Hokum
The UK trailer for Hokum has been released, giving a first look at Adam Scott stepping into darker territory with this upcoming horror from director Damian McCarthy.
Set for release in UK and Irish cinemas on 1 May, the film follows Scott as reclusive novelist Ohm Bauman, who retreats to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes. What begins as a quiet getaway quickly turns unsettling when he becomes fixated on local stories about an ancient witch said to haunt one of the rooms.
The trailer leans into that creeping sense of dread, blending eerie folklore with psychological horror as Bauman’s grip on reality starts to slip. Strange visions and a mysterious disappearance pull him deeper into a story that seems tied not just to the inn, but to his own past.
Scott, best known for roles in Severance and Parks and Recreation, takes on a more intense, unsettling role here, with the film positioning him at the centre of its slow-building tension. He’s joined by Peter Coonan, David Wilmot and Austin Amelio.
Written and directed by McCarthy, Hokum continues the filmmaker’s interest in atmospheric horror, with the setting of an isolated Irish inn adding to the sense of unease.
With its mix of folklore and psychological tension, Hokum looks set to deliver a more understated kind of horror – one that builds gradually before tipping into something darker.
